Introduction to Sudoku

The word - SUDOKU
SU DOKU is the short word for 'Suju wa dokushin ni kagiru' in japanese language. It means independent digit. It is now a popular game in the world now, there are more than 85 countries and 400 newspapers which pusblish the game daily.

A little history
The game was first introduced in year 1970 in New York, which was known by "The Number Place". It was then brought to Japan in the 1980s where it started to gain its popularity.

Rules of thumb
The rules are simple. The game seems easy, but it really needs you to put on your thinking cap while solving the game. The game is made up of 9x9 grid of squares, each 3x3 squares forms a total of 9 boxes. Refer below:


The player needs to fill in the missing digits from 1 to 9 into the squares. The digits from 1 to 9 are only allow to appear once in every row, column and each box. Simple enough?

The game
